My husband and I are MAJOR soda lovers. We spend an endless amount of money feeding our Mountain Dew and Diet Pepsi habits. I was extremely excited to get the goodies pictured above. The eco-friendly features of this product are attractive to me. I have a family of four and it seems like we have a LOT of trash so minimizing our collection of cans and bottles is a great selling feature of the SodaStream. It is also SO incredibly easy to use. The machine has no confusing parts to put together or electrical equipment. You open the back and put the carbonator in, fill the bottle with water, twist it into place, push the button a few times to carbonate the water, untwist your bottle, pour your syrup in and that's all there is to it! The bottle makes one liter of soda and is reusable, so no bottles are going in the trash.

I tried the root beer and lemon-lime flavors. I must say, the SodaStream soda has a much more natural flavor than any soda I've ever tasted. The directions tell you to push the carbonator button three times. I had to push it five or six times to get it to a carbonation good enough for me but the flavor is great! Lemon-lime can be compared to Sprite for me but the difference in nutrition facts is outstanding.

 

The SodaStream syrups have a significantly fewer amount of calories, sugar, and carbs. You have to make sure your water is VERY cold before using the SodaStream. I stored a bottle of cold water in the fridge for a couple of hours and the soda tasted much more comparable to name brands. If the water isn't cold enough, I noticed the soda tended to go flat.

The SodaStream is also cost effective. You can shop on their Web site or at various retailers around the world (JCPenney, Target, Staples, Sears, and more). Every 10th soda mix you buy is FREE and each bottle of mix contains the equivalent of 33 cans of soda. These can be purchased for as low as $4.99. A 24-pack of soda cans here in Indiana costs around $6.99 ON SALE, so the SodaStream is extremely cost effective.

Will the SodaStream replace my Mountain Dew? Probably not, but it is a great "filler" or alternative to drinking an excessive amount of Mountain Dew. Plus I feel more comfortable letting my kids drink from it, because neither of them are allowed to have soda at this point in their lives due to the high sugar content. I can reduce my carbon footprint a bit with this nifty little machine too!

Olympics Entertaining at Home: Arnold/Oroweat Official Bread Sponsor of the 2012 Olympics

Olympic fever is heating up this summer as the Opening Ceremonies for the London 2012 Olympic Games are quickly approaching on Friday, July 27.  Did you know that the official bread of the Olympic is Arnold/Oroweat?  They are my favorite go to bread for all my meals that include a bread product.  I truly love it for the taste, quality, calories and the variety.  As the Official Bread Supplier of Team U.S.A., Arnold, Brownberry, Oroweat Breads is excited to share the below tasty tea sandwich recipes as well as tips for throwing your own English tea party with flair or you can just ask my mom since she's from England.

Tips on how to throw an English Tea Party:

1. Start with the table and arrange a nice tablecloth to set the tone for your food (Gingham is popular in London).
2. Place your finger foods on a cake stand in the center of the table. Popular finger foods include scones, tarts and tea sandwiches.
3. When making the tea sandwich, think dainty. It’s important start with a good base, like Arnold®/Brownberry®/Oroweat® Health-full® 10 Grain breads. Top with a light layer of condiment, preferred sandwich meat, and a thin slice of cucumber or watercress. Top with the remaining bread. Trim the crusts and cut into quarters.
4. Remember, events like Olympics viewing parties are not an excuse to disregard healthy eating. Eat nutritiously during all the fun by choosing Arnold®/Brownberry®/Oroweat® Breads to still get fiber and whole grain goodness.

RECIPES:

Turkey & Camembert Sandwich 

(serve on Arnold®/Brownberry®/Oroweat® Health-full® 10 Grain Bread)

• 1 round of camembert cheese
• 4 oz of turkey, sliced
• 2 cups of micro greens

Slice the camembert into slices and arrange on the bottom half of the bread. Layer with turkey slices and top with micro greens.

Apple & Cheese Sandwich 

(serve on Arnold®/Brownberry®/Oroweat® Health-full® 10 Grain Bread)

• 8 oz brie cheese
• 1 apple, cored & thinly sliced
• 2 tablespoons citrus honey
• 2 cups mache lettuce

Spread citrus honey on bread and then layer thinly sliced brie cheese and thin apple slices on bread. Top with mache lettuce.

Cucumber Sandwich

(Arnold®/Brownberry®/Oroweat® 100% Whole Wheat Bread)

• 10 oz goat cheese
• 8 oz cream cheese
• 2-3 garlic cloves, minced
• 1 teaspoon salt
• 1/2 teaspoon pepper
• 1 tablespoon fresh thyme, finely chopped
• 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, finely chopped
• 2 teaspoons dill 
• 4-6 tablespoons low fat milk

Place all of the ingredients in a bowl and mix together. Add any additional milk if the spread is very thick. Spread the mixture on bread and top with thinly cut slices of cucumber and baby arugula.

Deals and Discounts in San Antonio with SAVE
