I was quite surprised that anything could beat out Sponge Bob Square Pants when it comes to my just turned seven year old but something did and it was educational and fun!  Most of us parents, if not all, battle our children to brush their teeth and I think it's because they don't understand the implications of it all.  I received a complimentary copy of Melvin the Magnificent Molar! book written by Julia Cook and Dr. Laura Jana via a posting from TwitterMoms.  Since I have two smaller children who need to brush with the seven year old's permanent teeth coming in, it was perfect timing.


The book with great illustrations by Allison Valentine provides a playful fun tale on the importance of brushing their teeth.  My favorite part was the connection of not brushing teeth and those teeth turning green.  I always tell Jamie (seven year old) if she doesn't brush, her teeth will turn green so it was just reinforced with this great book.  

I waited to read the book until the next morning while both girls were watching Sponge Bob and much to my surprise, both stopped watching and turned all attention to me!  They were really occupied with the story as well as the whimsical illustrations.  I would highly recommend this book to anyone with children to help them understand the importance of brushing, visiting the dentist and understanding the process our teeth go through from baby to permanent.  Delightfully entertaining!
