What is the Spring Renewal program? It's a great way to start spring on a new foot! By incorporating just 10 little things, it can lead you to a happier, healthier you. I thought about these 10 little things as when my husband leaves for Kuwait on April 29th for a year, I've decided it would be my major kick off point to pulling it together and getting healthier once and for all. Here is my plan for those 10 little things:
- Ride my bike for a brisk 15 minutes at interval levels. One minute fast, two minutes a little slower and I will repeat until the 15 minutes is up. This will be a quick picker up to get me going.
- Eat a fruit or vegetable (or both) at every meal. Proper nutrition is lacking in my household and if I lead my example, we'll all get there. Every day, I will continue to look for ways to eat better and eliminate junk food.
- Read for 30 minutes a day to my kids. This will not only promote great reading habits but it will teach them good habits.
- I will read my Bible every day as there is nothing more soothing for the soul then good scripture.
- Rotate prayer at meal time with my kids to teach them gratitude.
- Give a moment of praise to my children every day. Strong self-esteem is essential to those growing years and when I see a smile on their face, it brings one to mine.
- Call or write one person every day to bring a "hey, I'm here and I'm thinking of you" smile to their face. Showing a loved one that you care can make the difference to anyone.
- Drink my daily intake of water and avoid the sodas. This every day practice can lead to healthier bodies which ultimately affects happiness.
- Smile, smile smile! Make smiling a habit and if necessary, I'll sign up for a joke a day to keep me laughing! Laughing is essential to health and this is something I'm not lacking thanks to my kids!
- Even though in reverse order, hugging! Hugging is another great way to bring love and warmth to one another. Hugging shows affection and comfort. I always hug my children once a day.
